Hey! It's May! And here are our Islands of the Month...

Greetings, Poptropicans! Get ready to help the Nabooti tribe find its sacred jewels... rescue Mya, Oliver, and Jorge as you figure out the Mystery of the Map... introducing May's Islands of the Month!

As usual with the IOTM, first-time finishers earn 500 credits for finishing each island. If you've already completed them, don't worry -- complete the islands again in May and you'll get 300 credits for each. That means you can earn 600-1000 credits for finishing the IOTM, so hop on over to Poptropica now and get playing!

🐘 Nabooti Island, our IOTM poll winner, is normally open only to Poptropica members but for the month of May it's open to everyone! On this adventure you'll help the Nabooti tribe find their missing seven sacred jewels. Trek across Africa and visit pyramids, ancient mines, and giant waterfalls throughout your mission!

Need some help? Here's Captain Crawfish's brand-new Nabooti Island walkthrough!

🌴 Mystery of the Map Island is making its second appearance as an IOTM in honor of our new book that stars our MOTM characters, Poptropica: The Secret Society! Play MOTM Island and join Mya, Oliver, and Jorge for a thrilling adventure that lifts the veil from the greatest secret of all: the origin of Poptropica!

Check out the trailer...

And watch the walkthrough if you want tips and tricks!

As always, we'll do our best to find some lost art and other cool stuff from when we created these Islands, and post it all here on the blog this month.

Enjoy May's Islands of the Month on Poptropica!

PS: Have you read the Poptropica books, starring Oliver, Mya, and Jorge? If you like Mystery of the Map Island, you'll love the books! See what they're all about!

Poptropica Book 3: The Secret Society is out next week!

We know that you've been wondering what happens to Mya, Oliver, and Jorge after the conclusion of Poptropica: The Lost Expedition. As of Tuesday, April 11, you don't have to wait any longer!
In Poptropica: The Secret Society, we find Mya, Oliver, and Jorge in the custody of a secret society whose mission is to protect and preserve Poptropica—a mysterious, uncharted island world. These Protectors, as they call themselves, believe that any outside interference with the islands of Poptropica could have catastrophic results on the course of history in the real world.
As if things aren’t bad enough, Octavian has finally claimed possession of the confounding map, thwarted the society’s attempts to capture him, and is determined to alter the time line. The trio must join forces with the Protectors and find Octavian before he can go through with his evil plot, or all of human history might be changed—or worse—destroyed!
Poptropica: The Secret Society is available now for pre-order online, and will be available in bookstores and online on 4/11!

Need to catch up on the series? Check out books 1 and 2. And remember, you can get your Mya, Oliver, and Jorge fix before book 3 debuts by playing Mystery of the Map Island on Poptropica!

Exclusive! Interview with "Poptropica: The Lost Expedition" author Mitch Krpata!

Today's the day, everyone! Our latest book, Poptropica: The Lost Expedition -- sequel to Poptropica: Mystery of the Map -- is now available everywhere you can buy books! Find out how you can get your copy here!

To celebrate this super special occasion I asked the author of the book, Mitch Krpata, if he'd mind doing a little interview for this here awesome blog. And being the all-around nice guy he is, he said yes.

So without further ado... meet the very talented, very funny Mitch Krpata!

So, Mitch. Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm married and have two young kids and a dog. I like to watch movies, read books, play board games, and sleep late. Anything that doesn't require me to leave the house.

How long have you been working on Poptropica? What do you do exactly?

I have been working on Poptropica from the beginning. I was part of the team that met every week in a windowless conference room to brainstorm ideas, and also helped to lay out Early Poptropica. My main job has been to write the island scripts, but I also help with marketing and promotion, licensed products (like the books and Ubisoft games), making our YouTube walkthroughs... I'm also a real cut-up on Slack. (Editor's note: He certainly is. His gifs are epic.)

Tell us something random about yourself that Poptropica fans would find funny or surprising.

I love professional wrestling. One day I will convince the powers that be to let me make a Lucha Libre Island.

What are your top three favorite Poptropica Islands? Why?

Red Dragon Island is a favorite because it was the first one that I worked on from beginning to end and really felt a sense of ownership. Plus, you know, ninjas.

I love PoptropiCon because it's Poptropica at our best: It's funny, exciting, and scary. It has great characters and varied gameplay.

Lunar Colony is also up there because the ending makes me emotional.

Favorite Poptropica villain? Why?

Myron Van Buren was the most fun to write, because he was so dignified and proper yet also a complete psychopath. I would not want to be invited to dinner at his place.

You can only have one ice cream flavor for the rest of your life. What would it be?

Vanilla. Because you didn't say anything about how many toppings I could have, and vanilla goes with everything!

So, tell us a little about Poptropica: The Lost Expedition.

The Lost Expedition is about what happens to the kids once they leave the Viking island that featured so prominently in the first book. There's a lot more island-hopping this time, and more supporting characters. But Octavian isn't the only one after the kids anymore, and they soon realize that Poptropica isn't all -- pardon the pun -- fun and games!

Can you give us some hints about books 3 and 4?

Book 3 will finally start to answer some of the many, many questions that have come up in the first two books. It's also action-packed! Can't say much about book 4 just yet...

Mya and Oliver battle it out in a game of Poptropica hoops. Who wins?

Mya would win because she's cooler under pressure.

Oliver and Jorge battle it out in a game of Poptropica soup words. Who wins?

Oliver would win because he's a total bookworm. Jorge would probably look for swear words, which aren't allowed.

If you could only pick one, who would you want to partner up with to explore a new Poptropica Island: Mya, Oliver, or Jorge? Why?

This is really tough! I've come to love all three of these characters. I'd have to say Jorge, because when the going gets tough, he's always able to break the tension with a joke.

***

Is Mitch the coolest or what? Everyone at Poptropica loves working with him and I bet you can see why!

Now that you're psyched to read Poptropica: The Lost Expedition, here's where to buy it!

And if you need your fix of Mya, Oliver, Jorge, and Octavian, don't forget that Mystery of the Map Island is free for everyone to play. You'll get a new perspective on the action of the first book, and play a starring role. Visit Poptropica to play now!

Happy Book Birthday to everyone involved with Poptropica: The Lost Expedition! Time to celebrate!

This may or may not be video straight from Poptropica HQ.

Create Your Dream Island: Tips for submitting a winning Island

Now that the Create Your Dream Island contest is open, we're excited to start reading your Island ideas. You might be wondering how to get the inside track on a winning entry. You'll find a lot of helpful tips in your copy of the Island Creator Kit.

Here are a few more hints about how to make your entry stand out:

A setting we've never done before

It might sound simple, but one of the very best ways to get our attention is to set your Island in a place we've never done before. Sometimes that's all it takes for us to get excited about an idea. Even if you have a great story, if it's set in Old Japan or on the moon, we'd probably pass. But if it's somewhere new, we'll be interested. Look for something that's never been done on Poptropica!

An interesting time period

Another way to catch our attention is to look into the distant past, or the far future. For instance, when we were writing Mystery Train, we started with the idea of a mystery story set on a moving train, but it wasn't until we decided to place it in a historical moment -- the 1893 World's Fair -- that the whole thing came together. The when of your story may be as important as the where.

A twist on a familiar tale

We like genre stories. That's why we often start with time-honored premises: a Wild West story, or a vampire story. But try to figure out what makes your idea different. For instance, Astro-Knights Island mashed up two familiar genres -- knights and aliens -- to make something new and original.

No licensed properties

Believe us, we'd love to make an Island in which Harry Potter and Katniss Everdeen team up to fight Darth Vader. But it's not up to us. Other people own those properties. For this contest, we can't use existing characters, stories, or fictional worlds -- period. So make sure that everything in your entry is an original idea!

We can't wait to see what you come up with. You can download an official entry form from our friends at www.penguin.com/poptropica, or get one in your copy of the Island Creator Kit -- available now!

New Poptropica books out tomorrow -- including the Island Creator Kit!

It's been a long wait, but tomorrow marks the release of four new Poptropica books!

The Island Creator Kit will take you step-by-step through the process of making a new Island. It's a great activity book on its own -- but don't forget about the "Create Your Dream Island" contest! We're opening up submissions and will choose one player's spectacular Island to create on Poptropica for everyone to play.

You don't need to buy the book in order to enter the contest (you can read the rules and get a free entry form from our friends at Penguin), but following the steps outlined in the Island Creator Kit will certainly give you a leg up on the competition!

We're also releasing Poptropica Friends: Quizzes and Activities for You, Your Friends, & Your Life. This is an activity book that asks a lot of questions about you and the people around you. You may even need their help to fill it all out! And who knows, when you're done, you might have learned a little more about yourself and your friends.

Rounding out the new releases are illustrated novels based on two of our best Islands, Lunar Colony and Cryptids Island. They'll bring these adventures to life in a whole new way.

We're really proud of all of these books. We hope you enjoy them!
