Art Contest Alert!! Art Contest Alert!!

Calling all artists! All Poptropicans! All artistic Poptropicans!!! Do you like drawing? Do you like... FREE MEMBERSHIP? We're throwing a costume design contest open to all players! All you need to do is draw your dream Poptropica costume. It could be anything! A powerful mech suit! A cowboy pirate! A pink man-rabbit that plots world domination!

...Maybe not that last one.

The winning design will be created in the game and be made available in the Poptropica Store! It'll also be worn by a Poptropican on Home Island. The icing on the cake? You'll also get a totally free 6 month Membership! Here's how the prize brackets break down:
  • GRAND PRIZE (1 winner): Your design will be made available for purchase in the Poptropica Store, and you will receive 6 months of free Membership, and your design will be featured right here on the blog!
  • RUNNERS UP (3 winners): You will receive 1 month of free Membership, and your design will be featured on the blog.
  • HONORABLE MENTION (10 winners): Your design will be featured on the blog.
Some guidelines to keep in mind while creating your prize-winning masterpieces:
  • Traditional and digital entries are both fine, and both will be given equal footing in the judging stage.
  • When you post your creation, don't forget to post some details about what powers or special effects your costume could have!
  • Make sure your design can be reproduced as a costume ingame. This means that really small details or lots and lots of different colors might not work as well. Look at the visual style of outfits already in the game and go from there!
  • Your costume design must be 100% your own. It cannot be an assembly of costume pieces already in Poptropica, and it cannot heavily resemble any other copyrighted media.
  • Three entries maximum per artist.
  • Name your costume and include your Poptropican's name on your entry! Do not share any personal information, such as your last name or where you live.
How do you submit your entry? Just send an email to Be sure to attach an image of your creation. In the body of your entry email, make sure to include your first name, the title of your design, and if you want, a social media handle or username to shoutout if you are selected to be one of the winners! This is totally optional.

Lastly, make sure you or an adult read over the official contest rules here:

You have from now until January 21 at MIDNIGHT eastern time to get us your entries. The maximum number of design submissions is 3, so GO CRAZY, POPTROPICANS! We can't wait to see what you come up with!!

Good vs. Evil - Pop Quiz!

Nobody likes evil, but bad guys can be kind of fun, can't they? Let's see just how evil (or nice) you actually are...mwah-ha-ha!

Have you ever...

  1. Peeked at someone else's test paper?
  2. Told your sibling they were left on the doorstep by howler monkeys?
  3. Cut ahead of someone in line?
  4. Read a book under the covers while you were supposed to be sleeping?
  5. Said you didn't do something, when you really did it?
  6. Told a secret you weren't supposed to tell?
  7. "Cleaned" your room by shoving everything under the bed?
  8. Hid your food you didn't want to eat under your napkin?
  9. Lied about why you didn't do your homework?
  10. Plotted to take over the world?

How evil are you?

Tally up all your yes and no answers, quick!

If you answered yes to questions 1-9, you are a totally regular human who does questionable stuff sometimes. If you answered yes to question 10, you might actually be evil. Just a little.

2019 is almost over...

And it sure was a busy one for Poptropica!! We've been making some big updates, big changes, and getting ready for the new decade!

The Poptropica Pet Shop arrived at last! This is a feature everyone has been wanting FOREVER and we're so happy everyone can finally have their own customizable pet follower! I love my bunny so much :')

Keep an eye on the pet store in the future, because there MIGHT be some more fluffy friends on the horizon...

The main game store got a face lift, too! This may not seem like a big deal, but updating every section of the game is actually a really important part of the conversion process for getting the game off of Flash. A whole lot of updates this year have been getting ready for the big move!

Mobile Login arrived!! That means that as long as you have a Poptropica account, you can access it ANYWHERE as long as you have an iOS or Android device! No more losing your progress when you get a new phone, and Membership can also apply on your phone, now! This is probably my favorite update, I'm a total completionist.

The spiritual successor to our dearly beloved Reality TV Island arrived in the form of Reality TV: Wild Safari! This island is uniquely awesome because it lets players earn unlimited credits with replays. And did you know that playing the minigames on harder difficulties gives better rewards?

WOO. I'm tired just thinking about all that stuff. The Poptropica team had a REALLY busy year, and it definitely wouldn't have been possible without you guys! 2020 is right around the corner, and we've got some more big plans on the horizon (yes, including Zomberry) so stay tuned, eat lots of holiday snacks, and keep playing Poptropica! <3

Behind the Scenes: Making Artwork!

Ever wondered how artwork throughout Poptropica is made? Check it out!

Everything starts with a sketch. Look at how many versions Abigail drew of that super awesome Mythology scene just to start! These small, quick sorts of drawings are called "thumbnails," and making them helps an artist figure out what they want a drawing to look like before they've put all the time and effort into making all those beautiful colors and details!

Once the rest of the art team has agreed that the sketches are looking awesome and ready to go to the next step, we shift gears and put it in color and (drumroll please) vector format!

What's a vector? It's a special, unique way you can make images on a computer. Instead of needing to save every single pixel in a picture, vectors draw and color pictures with math! (Bet you didn't see THAT coming.) Vectors are what make Poptropica possible. The whole game uses them to run! That's right, guys. We wouldn't have Poptropica without math.

Look at the finished drawing! It's exciting! It's dynamic! It's heroic! Thanks to every stage of planning and our artists working together, it's the best that it can be! With each member of the team looking offering constructive critique and their own ideas, the whole game looks all the better.
